Progress Update

Hi all,

Still no Bullet Candy for Linux, as i haven’t got the joysticks working yet. Sorry.

Space Phallus is still ticking along, with some truly crude enemy designs and some pretty revolting attacks. I’ll post some pictures soon.

Space Phallus Update

Well, I've pretty much got the first of the levels finished, Ive just got to finish some graphics and I'm on to the next level, which will be a little like Asteroids, only with testicles and stuff. Sacks, you know. The levels will each have two ways of playing them, one is reaching a set points goal that unlocks the next level, the second is a score attack style mode. So basically you can 'complete' the game, but still not have finished it. I'll be having online hi-scores for the score attack modes, so we can all see who the best players are.

Once Ive got some graphics in place I'll start posting some pictures. If you can't wait however, I'm sure the internet can provide some pretty crudely drawn pictures of genitals to tide you over. Here is one now for example: 8====>

In other news, the power supply in my Linux box has gone poof, so Linux users will have to wait slightly longer to get  Bullet Candy on their systems. Sorry :(

Wouldn't it be cool if...

I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, and he said "Wouldn't it be cool if you had a game where every level is different.". I would have to say, probably not. The game would turn into a mish-mash of bits that aren't as refined as they could be if they were worked on individually.

However, i like a bit of a challenge now and again, so i decided that Space Phallus (mentioned earlier) will have levels that are entirely different from each other. I've got a tonne of old code i could spruce up and use for this, so it should slow up development too much.

I'll see if i can get a prototype knocked up over the next few weeks for people to try.

Awesome Stuff

For those of you who enjoy the explore-em-up stuff in the Metroid games, you should really check out Knytt Stories. The progression through the game and the item/power-up collection mechanic is really compelling in this, with scope for all sorts of messing around and sequence breaking to get to the end quicker. It's probably the first game i've played since Duke Nukem 3D where i've gone and got some more levels for it as soon as i'd finished. It's just a really charming little game.

Progress Update

Hi all,

I guess i haven't checked in for a while (not since i took my old blog off line really), so i figured that today was a good day to start updating this blog again. I'm not sure whether i prefer this blogger thing to Wordpress, so I'Il see how things go.

Bullet Candy will shortly be available for Linux (in fact there is a demo in the forum for users to test), once I get the joystick issues resolved. I haven't had too many crash reports yet so hopefully things will go smoothly. Also I'll be updating the Mac and Windows versions of the game and demos to keep them in line with the Linux version.

New developments in the pipeline include a new take on arena shooters, which will be throwing a few new elements into the mix. Whilst this isn't an update to Bullet Candy as such, i definitely want to expand the game some.

Also, as a side project with some rather puerile friends and family, we've been working on Space Phallus. It's a pretty simple affair, which uses 8-bit themed graphics and sound. The premise of the game is to save the galaxy from the marauding space penises that are threatening to destroy it. This one is coming along quite quickly (is that a pun?) so should see release in the coming months. I'll try to post some pics and maybe a video soon.

Update 7 now available

Bullet Candy update 7 is now available. Also, it includes various compatibility fixes, so it should work on some previously non-compatible systems. The game can also be forced to render in DirectX mode, follow the instructions in the update folder if you need to do this.

Players who bought the game from my site can download the game from the last update email link i sent them. Mac Game Store players can get the game from thier original download link and Manifesto and Steam players can get the new update via the usual means.

Recent Developments

Now that Bullet Candy is winding down workwise, i've made a proper start on some new titles. Hopefully i can get some pics ups soon, the next game will be a vertical shooter, with an underwater theme.
